LEGALIZED TRANSLATION
Since April 30, 2001 Republic of Bulgaria adopted the
made in Hague on October 5th, 1961. The Convention foresees unified method of compiling of a certain type of document category (public acts), ment to be used abroad - by placing over the document itself or as an attacment to it - a special statement (an Apostil). The Apostil certification is actualy legalization of the document itself by the state's competent authority, where it has been issued. The documents, owning a Apostil, are free from any further certification or legalization procedures (by any higher authorities and institutions in the issuing country, as well as from the diplomatic or consular representation of the country - party in the convention, on the territory of which the documents will be presented.)

Convention does not apply for documents, connected directly to trade or tariff documents and such, prepared by diplomatic and consular departments. These documents does not receive Apostil. Such documentation could be certified for use abroad by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For documents, meant for countries, which are not party of the Convention , Canada for example, the former requirements and procedures for certification apply: the Bulgarian documents need to have Apostil from the authorized authority or other form of certification (legalization) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, afterwards to be legalized by the diplomatic or consular representatives of the country where the documents will be presented. 2. Documents, originating from Canada.
For documents, issued by countries outside the Convention, such as Canada, the former requirements and procedures for certification apply: the foreign documents have to be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, after which they have to be legalized by the Bulgarian diplomatic or consular departments in this country or to be accredited for it. Prior to legalization in the Bulgarian consular department in Canada for using such documents in Bulgaria, the documents, the issued by the Canadian institutions and official authorities to be used in Bulgaria have to be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international trade of Canada:

The legalization fee in the Consular Department of the General Consulate of Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto or the Bulgarian Embassy in Ottawa is 25.00 Canadian dollars per each document, paid in cash, money order or certified cheque to of the General Consulate of Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto or the Bulgarian Embassy in Ottawa, according to where the service is being used. Fees are payable including for legalization of civic status acts (birth, marriage, death certificates).
3. Documents, originating from a third country
The consular offices of the Consular Department of the General Consulate of Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto or the Bulgarian Embassy in Ottawa are able to legalize documents, issued by institutions and officials from third party for their usage in Canada, if the lather has been previously legalized by the Bulgarian consular department in the corresponding country.
